Ethan Hershman – CEO and Co-Chairman

The great grandson of a horse and wagon collector of rags, scrap metal and broken furniture, Ethan Hershman grew up in a recycling business founded in 1887. He started working with his family at the Branford, CT-based company in 1981 and took over for his retiring father five years later. After years of competition with rival Bruce Fleming’s Canusa Corp., Hershman teamed up with Fleming in 2002 to form Canusa Hershman Recycling Co., LLC where he is CEO and Co-Chairman.

He founded Canusa Corp., a trading company for secondary fiber and pulp, in 1981. In 2002 Fleming merged Canusa’s fiber operations with its most significant competitor, Hershman Recycling, to form Canusa Hershman Recycling Co., where he currently serves as Co-chairman.
